The Vittorio Emanuel Bridge This bridge leads to the Vatican. You can see St. Peters in the background to the left. |
| | Piazza Navona This is roughly in the center of the plaza. It was a beautiful day, so clear and bright. What a nice time to be in Rome. |
| | Finally! The colisseum... It's amazing to finally be able to go somewhere you've seen in countless photographs and movies all your life. What a thrill.
The surprising thing about the colisseum is that it is located RIGHT in the center of town and a there are cars and buses and taxis racing by it all the time. It seems so strange for something so old.
They've now built a catwalk down the middle (you can see it behind us to the left) so you can walk down the center and get a better view of the chambers that were beneath the colisseum floor in the gladiator times. It's quite interesting. |
| Veiw from a cafe on Piazza Navona |
| | Piazza Navona in Black & White So here we are, sitting at a cafe on the Piazza, it's a glorious day and I look over to see this wonderful view of the piazza from our table. I just had to take a picture.
That's what I call a nice view for macchiato sipping. |
| | BEST PIZZA on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II This is the main street that leads to the Vittorio Emanuele bridge and goes past the Piazza Navona.
His wild mushroom and mozzarella pizza was incredible. You tell him how big to cut the slice, and then pay by the gram. We like our pizza hot so we gestured for him to throw it in the oven (the brick behind him) and he was happy to do so. Very nice guy. |
| Wild Mushroom & Tomato Basil pizza |
| | And here's a close-up... All I can say is, I'm drooling at the site of this picture! |
| | The dome of San Pietro I thought this shot turned out nice because of the sky. It was SO blue. When we went up to the top, it was still hazy but by the time we had come down, it was clear as a bell and a deep azure blue. |
| | Geometry in the strangest places... As we were leaving the vatican, we passed by this interesting juxtaposition of angles and color. I thought it was cool looking so I took a picture! |
