Buddhism in Santa Fe

by lareina - last update: Jan 28, 2005

Santa Fe is a very spiritual and holistic city. Aside from organic eateries and spas offering purifying body treatments, you might notice prayer flags on many adobe homes. There is a Buddhist community in Santa Fe and there are two beautiful stupas in the city.

Away from the Crowds

The first stupa I visited in Santa Fe was on top of a hill off of Old Santa Fe Trail. I was the only one on the hill during my visit and had a beautiful view of the city below. As the sun sank lower in the sky, the light was simply amazing.

Sanctuary in the City

The other stupa I visited was located at the Buddhism Center on Airport Road. This stupa was much larger than the previous and was right next to a trailer park. The prayer flags had not yet faded from the sun and the colours were striking against the blue sky.

Nice page, made me so homesick! I miss Santa Fe even here in Florence, Italy. Was the Santa Fe Bakery on Cordova Rd. there in 2004? - it's another great cafe.
