Day 6: Sydney to Wagga Wagga

This morning we meet Vanessa for the drive to Wagga Wagga. It's hugs and smiles all round, until Nessa sees our luggage and we see Nessa's car. The little car must carry Nessa, Nessa's Mum, Nessa's boyfriend Ashley, Dougie and myself plus all our luggage. We spend the next few hours buried under suitcases, occasionally surfacing when Vanessa points out sights such as Botany Bay. It gets much roomier when we drop Ashley off and we continue through the narrow mountain roads (scary at times, but great views!) all the way to Wagga Wagga.

Day 7: Wagga Wagga

Today is "Tour de Wagga". Vanessa picks us up and takes us to her air force base. Unfortunately, her graduation parade has been put back and we won't be able to attend, so we make do with a tour of the base. Next we drive out to Kapooka, where we consider teasing some recruits, but Vanessa decides she needs her job too much. After Kapooka we journey to the Charles Sturt University for wine and cheese tasting, during which Nessa's Mum engages the cellar staff in a debate on the wine-term for "harsh" with hilarious results. Our final stop is Wagga's fried chicken for lunch and then we part until evening.

Adam and I use the afternoon to check out Wagga's main street, highlights being the vintage shop, massive Centrelink and Super Cheap Autos (for Adam at least). We discover Wagga is not a very happening town.

In the evening Vanessa takes us to a yummy Thai restaurant followed by a Wagga pub crawl. Wagga night life is not very exciting (although the possums are cute!) but we still have a fantastic night.

Day 8: Wagga Wagga to Sydney

Today we farewell Wagga. We catch our morning train, entertaining ourselves with the scenery, cooking magazines and the train bar. It's a long journey and we arrive in Sydney in early evening. We discover that our hostel has double booked us, so once again we are in Sydney with nowhere to sleep! We soon find another hostel, however, which turns out to be really good. We spend the evening having a beer with some other hostel residents in the laundry, which we are informed is the social hub of our new home.
