"Trieste and "Friuli Venezia Giulia" region" Italy Travelogue by paogg

Not far from Trieste and its beautiful Miramare castle (see the picture in my Trieste page), a "new" castle has been recently opened to the public in the small town of Duino.
The interior can't certainly compete with Miramare's, and the park around is much smaller (but very cute!), however it is well worth a visit if you are in the area, and the views on the gulf of Trieste are stunning.

the estuary

The estuary is West of Trieste.
It's not very well known and mostly local people know the place.
A couple of observation towers made of wood have been built along the shore of the river just where it joins the Adriatic Sea. It's very peaceful vith beautiful views over the Trieste Gulf and the grassland around the estuary. Much of this grassland is a natural reserve. You can easily spot wild birds and wild horses from the top of these towers.
Wooden paths over the wilder grasslands have also been built.
