My first VT meeting took place February, 2004 in the Lincoln Square neighborhood in Chicago. Kristi (Dabs) organized this dinner meeting for us and very wisely chose the Simplon Orient Express Restaurant at 4520 N. Lincoln Avenue.

Dabs Was Not Hidden This Time! Krisit is excellent at organizing and planning VT dinners and events. I was able to take another picture of her because she was hidden in the group photograph. Kristi (Dabs) and her husband Dave are well traveled and quite interesting. Her pages on VT are excellent. |

A Wit Beyond Compare At this first VT meeting, I sat across from Martin. He seemed very quiet at first, but I noticed that he is great at listening and learning. To LOL just go to his pages and read between the lines...his humor is subtle, but wonderful. |

Chet and Katja At this same meeting, I sat beside Chet (yooperprof) from Marquette, Michigan. He taught morning classes at the university and then drove all the way from the UP to make our dinner at 7:30 pm. Chet teaches history at the university, and is a delight to converse with about almost any subject. Beside Chet is Katja (Pedersdottir) from Evanston. She's the reason I went to the dinner; she invited me. And what a friend she turned out to be! I'm a real "chicken" about driving in the city, and she lead me to the correct way to make it home. She, indeed, went out of the way. Her pages have some of the best introductions on VT. |
