After we got settled, we went to sleep. I woke up a couple of times as the wind generator was running and went up to check on our position.
At 0730, I waked Bob up and insisted that we get up and pull the anchor and go into the marina. We actually went back under the Rickenbacker Causeway about 8.
It was about 3 nm back to the marina, and we were there by about 0845, and got tied up. The dinghy was battered by the downwind piling and no matter what we did, we couldn't get the boat over to the upwind piling to put a line on it. Also the marina rates have really gone up -now $1.85/ft. Lots of empty slips.
The boat next to us is a brand new SeaRay and the owner has absolutely no idea how to handle it - it was brought in by a delivery skipper.
Bob walked up to get the car, and we went out to our daughter's house. They had a bunch of people there and were making deer meat chili. We were pretty tired, so we had a chili potato and then came back to the boat.
During the week we went to a gift exchange with our daughter and her friends (she supplied us with gifts from her travels) went to our grandson's batting practice. While our grandson was in the batting cage, our daughter helped granddaughter practice for T-ball ....
...saw our granddaugter's 'portfolio' at her art class, went to our grandson's school for their project on the coral reefs, heard him play the tuba(although we didn't go for the breakfast concert), bought lumber for a project of Bob's, did the laundry....
....filled the boat up with water, and Bob went to the commissary at Homestead. We all went to Outback Steak House for dinner after our daughter got back from Mexico City on Thursday night.
Friday, Bob started on his project (which is storage and a place for the TV in the main saloon) in the marina. Saturday we left for the Keys.

Regarding the origin of the name Miami, it is an Indian name MIYAMI meaning BIg Lake or Big Water. The original inhabitans were Calusa Indians who are no more, neither are the Tequestra. Seminoles are of Creek Indian Origin and they came later after the European Occupation of their land, but have given many names to florida townships: okochobee, immokalee etc.
Miami is a Calusa indian word
One of my favourite cities in the world! volopolo
Lovely Miami pages. Tomas Eriksson :)
I would not have thought of trying to fly an ultalight in Miami
Did you just visited all the restaurants of Miami!? Wow! Good report! I have to admit that Viscaya seems the best! Next time I go there I will try to find the spot were you took the pic ;)
I love the Vizcaya photo that you took through the window. It's an exquisite shot. What a beautiful place. I used to live in Florida. Lots of beauty there, both natural & manmade.
Great pages - sure brings back fond memories :-)
