Gambira loka - not for sensitive souls - the zoo

by belgianchocolate - last update: Feb 19, 2004

Yogyakarta zoo standards...
In this cage a Gibbon wastes away.

Noizy indonesians give him
unhealthy food!

The quarantaine...
is more a waiting zone
when one of their species dies inside
the zoo.

Also waiting a Siamang and
one of those beautiful
Celebes macaques.

The expression says enough. No?
A chimpanzee , and
it is a young animal.
Where did they get him?

They had no female...
He belongs in Africa.

The recreation is ofcourse there...
A tunnel to walk through...
A playground for children...
Boats like swans to sail the lake.

The Bird you see is a lucky one ,
It is a wild one , just stopping by...

Recreation sounds a lot like education.
There is something there,
but it's not too accurate and
rather little.

Anyway , I hope they learn at least something...
I hoped that Islam said that they had to
be nice for animals instead of..
(choose something yourself)

I found it strange...
To see a zoo like this.

I did expect to find better ,
because Jogya is a university city ,
lots of students studying veterinarian.

Where are they?

The vieuw on the local garbish dump
is free and can be enjoyed behind the
tiger enclosure.

See , the zoo is not a place to visit...
a sad place.
I refused to see the orangutans used
in a circus show.

I hope one day this will stop.

Very informative pages. I would go to Yogyakarta just to be able to visit Borobudur and the Temples of Prambandan.
