Hermanus is not only about the whales. They are off course lovely to see. The town has a beautiful atmosphere with a wonderful little fish shop. Calamari and chips sold for under R20 a year ago. At restaurants it will cost close on R45 and is not so tasty. The sea is out of this world and you can walk for miles. Being from Johannesburg where only the very brave walk around after dark we found it very safe to walk to town at night and never felt presurred to constantly lock all doors. The town is small and everything is within walking distance. There are numerous interesting little shops, restaurants and coffe shops. Even though it was overcasted, rainy and cold when we were there in September we still had a wonderful time. Kleinmond, about 5 min. drive from Hermanus is equally beautiful and the wellknown artist Gregoire Booinzaaiers' gallery is a must for art lovers. Take a drive to Arniston/ Waenhuiskrans with it's unspoiled beauty and quietness. A few km away from Struisbaai, on the way to Arniston, is the official meeting place of the 2 oceans(Atlantic and Indian). The coastal road from Cape town to Hermanus is the most beautiful I have ever seen. You should not be in a hurry if you take this road as it goes up very high with many windings. It's worth the time.
