Favorite Big Cities

by where2next - last update: Apr 12, 2004

#1 San Diego

Sunset
The beach, the surf, the sunsets, the weather. Not to mention a great zoo, Mission Bay, and La Jolla. Southern Cal in general is a great place. L.A. is just an hour or so north (depending on traffic!).

Note: This list is of the cities I have visited. Needless to say, there are dozens and dozens of great cities I have not visited such as Sydney, Bangkok, Beijing, Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul, Cairo, London, Etc. and Etc. With that said, onto #2 on the list!
Waltzing in Vienna

#2 Vienna

What's there not to like? Culture, music, real coffee houses, great wine district, art, palaces, nearby Alps and charming lake area. Salzburg is down the road to the west, and Budapest to the East.

#3 San Francisco

San Francisco is a great city in a great location. Golden Gate Park, seafood, the ocean, eclectic neigborhoods, and also a short drive to Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe, Monterey, Muir Woods, and even Yosemite. Add in Silicon Valley, Stanford, a great sports town, and so on. I can understand why it's so expensive to live there - it's worth the price.
Golden Gate Bridge

#4 Paris

Culture, Ambience, Food. To say the museums are the best in the world is an understatement.

#5 Boston

History, riverside parks, neigborhood mom and pop stores and local bars, Fenway Park, Harvard, MIT. Also, close to the coastline of Maine, and to mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire.
Fenway Park
Gelati!

#6 Florence

Museums featuring David, great scuplture at the Bargello, wonderful art at the Uffizi. Great masters such as Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Galileo.

The real reason I love the city - Gelati!!!

Venice is a wonderful place...though Florence is where if I had to choose a city to live in Italy...it would be here.

#7 Chicago

Incredible Museums, a Downtown that has a Good Vibe, Ethnic Cultures, Lakeshore Drive, the Cubs, Deep-Dish pizza, the Blues. I'll take Chicago over Manhattan anyday!
Michale Jordan
Lights of Tokyo

#8 Tokyo

A combination of new, electric, vibrancy coupled with a amazing historic tradition. Add in very friendly people that made it feel like America back in the 50's (i.e. when it said to have seemed safer). A city that's 15 million plus that with a variety of different districts feels like visiting many unique places all in one area.
