Winter

January to March is the real winter months.

From March 20 the day become longer than the night, indicating the arrival of the spring. This day is called Vårdagjämningen.

Spring

In April to May the days get longer and longer, the snow melts and the nature wakes up after the winter.

In the beginning of May it's often still some snow on the ground and ice on the lakes. It's a special feeling to sit out in the snow with temperatures up to +15 C. In the beginning of May the sun is really winning over the dark, with a sunrise at 04.00 and a sunset at 21.30.

The month of sunlight

In June the night is as shortest, with only 1,5 hour between sunset and sunrise.

June 21 is called sommarsolståndet, it's the longest day of the year. The sun actually sets after midnight, showing the last of it's beams at 00.01, to rise again at 01.45. During June it never gets dark outside.

Summer

July is the warmets month. The temperature can often be as high as +25 C.

Late summer

In August the days becomes shorter again, but it's still warm and very calm.

Now the season for picking berries starts, and if you are lucky you can go out on a bog and find some rare cloudberries.

Autumn

In September and October the colours start to shift, the weather is colder an the autumn is really here.

The snow can actually fall in September already, but it's rare that it stays for more than some days.

On September 22 the night starts to become longer than the day. This day is called höstdagjämningen.

Autumn turns into Winter

In November the first real snow arrive, giving the landscape a white colour.

Midwinter

In December the winter is really here, with a lot of snow and really cold days. The temperature can drop down to -40 C, and warmer than -20 C is considered as mild weather.

The shortest day of the year is December 21, called vintersolståndet. On that day the sun rise at 10.06 and set at 13.34, just giving three and a half hours of sunshine.

Wonderful introduction to your home town! Beautiful photos and a true insider's look at things. "Boll over tak" had me laughing out loud. Oh to be a kid again!
