One of attractions of Dubai Shopping Festival is "Global Village". Its basically exhibition in which many countries of world participate presenting their culture, handicraft and food.
Many countries from Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa participated in DSF 2004. Global Village had so much to offer that it was impossible to see every thing in one day or night. But I was lucky enough to manage it while sacrificing my sleep.
Security and parking arrangements were excellent. All basic facilities were also provided inside exhibition area. But one had to walk too much as parking was very far away, may be two kilometers or more.
It was great feeling entering different pavilions one by one. It looked like if you were exactly in that country. They tried to give exactly that image through these pavilions.
Thousands of tourists were enjoying the festival. I have never seen so many tourists from European in Dubai before. There were many families, friends, couples and individual tourists over there.
Outside each pavilion , traditional folk dances of respective countries were also presented. It was fun watching them.
I was with my friends so enjoyed it a lot. We were so busy in studying cultures that it became 2 a.m. in morning. I had my flight next morning and was supposed to be at airport at 6 a.m. So we decied to go back and have a little bit sleep.
Traditional Arab sweets were also available at various pavilions. They are so delicious no doubt about that.
While talking of sweets, let me tell you about Lebanese people. I have met many of them in Dubai and have found them very kind and nice. And i believe they are one of world's most friendly nation.
When I visited Lebanese pavilion in "Global Villages" , I enjoyed their traditional hospitality. They asked me that I was from which country.
I told them that I am from Pakistan, they were so happy that they gave me some traditional Lebanese sweets as gift. They were very delicious for sure ;-)
But i found Turkish people very rude and I was so disappointed to see their attitude towards tourists. Turkey is in my future destinations list but frankly speaking after having idea of their attitude I do not want to go there and waste my time.
I found prices of products a bit expensive. So I did not bother to do lots of shopping there. Even at shopping malls prices were not as less as I was expecting. I believe prices were lesser during Ramadan sales. But still not a bad deal.
I was looking for Pakistan's pavilion since long time. It was in corner so we were there quite late. It was really big with many stalls from all four provinces of Pakistan. But prices of products over there were also quite high.
All hotels in Dubai were fully booked during DSF. Since I had Dubai visa so there were no worries about accomodation. I stayed at my friend's flat and had a great time enjoying DSF 2004.
I would strongly recommend you to plan for Dubai during DSF as entire city is decorated with lights, many activities and events are arranged, many attractive sales are organized and there is so much fun which one should not miss.
