Hammemet

The first week of our holiday was spent in the resort of Hammamet, which is situated on the Cap Bon peninsula. Our base was the Aziza Hotel, which is 3 kilometers North of the town.

Unfortunately Rob's case went missing on the flight over, so over first stop was the local markets to buy new clothes, that completed, it was time to explore the Medina (Old Town.)

Out and About

We hired a "Grand Taxi" and explored the local countryside. One of our stops was at the village of Sidi Jdidi. We visited the local health spa, which runs on natural underground hot water that are full of natural minerals. We then drove up into the "Saw" mountains with its wonderful views of the distant coastline. At the spa, Mandy was persuaded to have the local Henna tattoo.

Sidi Jdidi

in all the local villages we were made very welcome by the locals.

Local Spa

We headed off into the mountains and came across a local natural spa. Rob went into the hot rooms and had a Tunisian sauna. Mandy had a local henna tattoo.

Port el Kantaoui

We then moved south to the resort of Port el Kantaoui
Our base in Port el Kantaoui was the Kanta Hotel, which is situated near the impressive marina.
Port El-Kantaoui is a purpose build holiday resort just a few kilometres outside the city of Sousse. Our base in Port el Kantaoui was the Kanta Hotel, which is situated near the impressive marina, we went for a meal on a ship that has been turned into an open air restaurant..

We slowed the pace down and took a relaxing cruise aboard the catamaran "Albatross" which sails from the Marina.

Excitement in PEK

On One of the days of our visit, we heard a loud explosion, it turned out to be Gas cylinders exploding during building work at a local nightclub, Rob was on hand with his digital camera to record the event.

Sousse

Sousse is Tunisia's 3rd largest city and is typical bustling city and port. The place we wanted to visit was the Medina (the old walled town.) On a very hot day, the first place we visited was the Ribat, which is a small square fort built in the 8th century AD.

The Nador (watch tower) of the fort holds some spectacular views across the city skyline, We then wandered through the streets of the medina and marvelled at the sights of the souks, the variety of colours and the "patter" of the locals selling thier wares.

Hello Robert! Happy Birthday from Finland! Great page on Hammamet. Tunisia was the first place outside Nordic Countries where I took my son and we both loved it so much. Great tips and good photos.
