"Skopje and surroundings" Skopje Travelogue by Sympathisant

On friday I went to Skopje, where I met Bojan.
The border crossing thing took some time, 1.5h.
The route on the albanian side was very very beautiful!

In Skopje Bojans family treated me like I was some member of the family. Bojans father speaks some german.
Bojan didn't know about Germanys history of the last 50 years. It was hard for him to believe, that I, as born in the former GDR, didn't know till '89 what a VCR is, or that almost noone had a phone, hehe
To stay there really was a pleasure!

The best thing about Skopje was all these unknown foods and drinks for me. If we had all these things in Germany I never would eat at home.

The city is pretty much divided, as are the people. Since the civil war two years ago (or at least since then) there are omnipresent tensions between the Macedonians and their athnic albanian landsmen.
The Albanians live in the old turkish area, which is the more beautiful part of the city. The rest is mostly so called comunistic architecture and not nice.
But the people make it a lovely city anyhow!
There are lot of cafes with beautiful people having one of the thousand different possibilities of drinking coffee. As it was still holidays the nights were full of young people having fun.

One day I climbed with Bojan the citys mountain Vodno. Really nice!
Next day we went to Matka Valley. Breathtaking beautiful!! You will see the pics later...
