A taste for the world
by Sunflora - last update: Jan 7, 2003
I enjoy travelling tremendously. Bear with me as I am still starting to build my webpage. Because I do move around quite a bit, I may not have my photographs handy to post them here but will do so when I have the oppurtunity.
Onward 2003
======================
With news that war is at hand, its much too scary for one to wonder what the year ahead will bring for us. Will it be more deaths and destruction? More economic downturn? More despair and sorrow? Perhaps that one is older now that one is more cynical yet hopeful about life. Whatever tomorrow brings, let us not weep about it today.
2002 has been a topsy curvy year for me. As my deadline beckons and I am close to reaching another decade of my life, I began once again to take stock of what I have and what I want to have. I also realize that some of my views about certain things have changed. If I loved to order different things on the menu, now I began to pick up the old favourites. Perhaps routine is beginning to set in, or that I realize that time is beginning to run out, I am no longer as young and as invincible (not that I was before, but foolishness and naivety does have a way of making us believe it is so) and thus more selective in what I choose.
I must admit that I am very lucky to have been given choices. Having choices is still very important to me. Gives an illusion of freedom, albeit it being limited choices. I guess I would like to believe that I am leading my life the way I want to, not the way that it has been dictated on to me. (A juxtaposition really because I still believe in predestination.) Granted there are many things to be taken into account when making one’s choices but it feels good to be able to take charge, at least of one’s own life, in this ever changing world.
Friends in my life do come and go. I guess only the good ones get to stay. Being somewhat of a hermit, I am always grateful that there are people who would want my company at all. I would have to thank my friends who are willing to hangout with me whenever I get back for a short visit or otherwise. Having lost friends before, I realize that the value of true friendship if often underestimated. If I appear to be disinterested or cold, it is only because I fear rejection. But I realize now that one has to be a friend in order to get friends. And sometimes you do get people who try to take advantage of your friendship. But that’s how the world works I guess, we live and learn.
So whats next for me? Now that I have seen some parts of Europe, I have a thirst for more. With the repercussions of 9-11 I do fear that it will be increasingly difficult to travel. Paradoxically, with the world being an ever shrinking place, we see more and more barriers being put up everywhere. My recent visits to France makes me realize the importance of being able to communicate. Being able to speak un po italiano made my trip slightly more enjoyable compared to my visit to France. So my next project is to learn new languages.
So here I am, welcoming 2003. May I use all the opportunities that is presented to me wisely and embrace life like there is no tomorrow.
