The official WC button
The St. Paul Winter Carnival has been a tradition in St. Paul, Minnesota since 1886 and started with the idea that winter won't stop Minnesotan from having fun.

After being a native of Minneapolis for 40 years, I attended my first events to the St. Paul Winter Carnival; the ice castle.

The Ice Castle - 2004

Every 10 years they build a castle made of ice and they're alway spectacular. This castle was built by volunteer union constuction workers and they did a great job on this years castle.

The building in the background is The St. Paul Cathedral.

Ice sculptures

At Rice Park in downtown is where they hold ice sculpture contests. My photograph is of the candycane bouquet. Very impressive!

Snow sculptures

Across the street from the ice sculptures are the snow sculptures and as you can see from my photo the contestants are still working on their creations.

This is a completed snow sculpture. This is beyond a snowman.

The Eagle Street Grill and Pub offers outside dining on tables and chairs made out of blocks of ice during to 17 days of the St. Paul Winter Carnival.

Greg, wonderful coverage of St. Paul. I worked there ('62-'66) and loved to eat at The Lexington on Grand. Helped with press entertainment room-St. Paul Winter Carnival, too. Long live VULCAN!!! Doug
