The St. Paul Winter Carnival has been a tradition in St. Paul, Minnesota since 1886 and started with the idea that winter won't stop Minnesotan from having fun.
After being a native of Minneapolis for 40 years, I attended my first events to the St. Paul Winter Carnival; the ice castle. |
The Ice Castle - 2004 Every 10 years they build a castle made of ice and they're alway spectacular. This castle was built by volunteer union constuction workers and they did a great job on this years castle. The building in the background is The St. Paul Cathedral. |
Ice sculptures At Rice Park in downtown is where they hold ice sculpture contests. My photograph is of the candycane bouquet. Very impressive! |
Snow sculptures Across the street from the ice sculptures are the snow sculptures and as you can see from my photo the contestants are still working on their creations. |
This is a completed snow sculpture. This is beyond a snowman. |
Outside dining The Eagle Street Grill and Pub offers outside dining on tables and chairs made out of blocks of ice during to 17 days of the St. Paul Winter Carnival. Customers take notice, tip your server well - this is really working you their tips. |
Past ice castles This ice castle was built on Lake Phalen for the 1984 St. Paul Winter Carnival. |
This ice castle was built on Harriet Island for the 1994 St. Paul Winter Carnival. |
