Notre Dame, Awesome Power & Majesty

by aussiedoug - last update: Dec 6, 2004

Aspects of N.D., but no Gargoyles

Incredible detail around front doors
Yes, it's a shame I didn't do the climb & photograph some Gargoyles as some of my interesting fellow VTers have done!

We were on too limited a time frame as we were also visiting Saint Chappelle & then onto Musee Marmottan-Monet later on.

However, I still managed to snap some interesting aspects of this magnificent cathedral. This main photograph will be followed by a close up, taken on 8x zoom by my Nikon Coolpix 5mb digital camera. So please enlarge it to do justice to the detail that I have narrowly focussed on from this larger photo.

The impression I got is summed up in my travelogue title. Whereas I felt Saint Chappelle was subtle elegance & beauty, I both saw, & felt, the awesome power and majesty of Notre Dame cathedral. I'm not a catholic, but was almost tempted to do "confession" on the way round. didn't because I was worried I wouldn't know when to stop if I got started!! LOL!!!

Close Up of Centrepiece of Front Doors

This is what amazed me all through la belle Paris. The detail in all of the stonework or metalwork. Just beautiful, just amazing. Enlarge this to get an idea of the detail in the timber doors. Superlatives fail me!
Side rear view with lamp-post

An Interesting Juxtaposition

Really the lamp-post seems to be the focus of this photo and yet it wasn't meant to be

Jeanne de Arc in Notre Dame

She makes it here as well as on my Paris intro

Joan de Arc. What an inspirational individual she was. I didn't take many photos of the interior of Notre Dame as there was a mass being celebrated and I felt it would be disrespectful. However, when I saw this I just had to take a photograph
Rose Garden at the rear of N.D.

Roses at the Rear

Really liked this rear view of Notre Dame with the rose gardens in the foreground. My next photo will be of a closeup of one we have in our garden, what we call a, "Blue Moon", even though I think it's a lilac colour

A Great Dame's Backside (& looking good too! lol!)

On my last day in Paris I explored the Ile St Louis and was rewarded with some great photographs, including a few of Notre Dame. This is one of them.
