I took this picture at about 2 in the morning. Night is not really night there in the summer. Being Mediterranean I had a serious problem. My biological clock was shuttered completely. I was tired and sleepy and yet I thought it was afternoon and could not go to sleep. The second time I visited I did not have such a serious problem. We did our most beautiful boat rides at 3-4 in the morning when the sun was rising and nature was slowly waking up.
This was my favourite spot. Not only I sat there for hours, waiting patiently for the elusive and magnificent kuikas (arctic divers) to appear, taking pictures or reading my book but I took many pictures of the spot itself at different times of the day, and with different weather conditions
The lake is full of yellow waterlilies, their heads just above the water, beautiful bright yellow fires. They flower in July. By the end of July they have started to die out. Their flat leaves are a resting place to a variety of insects.
Mallards are quite tame and come to feed near the house. They bring their babies along. A very pretty sight indeed. The ducklings learn to feed and swim, move away from their mothers and return again when something scares them or feel they have lost them. Finland does not have the numbers of birds I expected to see (I guess I am pretty spoiled with bird numbers in Greece), but there are species which one cannot see in Greece and this makes it very exciting.
