The place where this window is, used to be the entrance to the pilgrim´s room. Sinc ethey were not allowed to see anything of the abbey life, they had this seperate entrance into the room where they could sleep and have their injuries seen too. Just recently this window has been placed.

After the huguenots distroyed a lot of the abbey, the pilgrims room changed in function. It became the room where the abbot gave his orders and where once a week the monks were allowed to speak to each other if their duties so requiered. Several changes were made to the room. And somehwere in the 18th century this fresco of lady justice was painted above what used to be the hearth

On the side of the hearth you can find this object. It was used to rotate meat above the fire.

In this room you can find the place where the monks could urinate (see one of the tips). Even in wintertime the monks had no heating here. There is a small heater in the next room, build into the wall. But the Mairie was closed so we never got to see that. The monks were allowed to warm their fingers and such things as ink once or twince a day.
