I had never been to San Francisco, let alone California, but I only had 2 1/2 days and wanted to take in as much as possible.
First I took in The Golden Gate Bridge. Everyone has to see the famous Golden Gate Bridge when they visit San Francisco. It's awesome. So massive - so beautiful - so windy. |
Alcatraz You can see Alcatraz from The Golden Gate Bridge, there's no mistaking it. You can get better view from Pier 39 on Fisherman's Warf. From there you can take a ferry over the the island and get a tour of the prison. I didn't take the tour because I have heard it's 4 hours long and I only had 2 1/2 days to take in as much as I could. |
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMoMA) I love art museums and this one is fun. They have so much Jasper Johns that I was in heaven. They don't let you photograph any of the art work but, the building has a huge skylight which creates these light and shadow effects on the wall forming it's own art work. |
Here's another photo but, this is the lobby to SFMoMA. They have a wonderful cafeteria too. Definitely worth staying for lunch. |
Yerba Buena Garden and Center for the Arts I found this park by accident. Directly across the street from SFMoMA if Yerba Buena Garden and Center for the Arts and to my surprise they were getting ready for a lunch time concert of Colombian jazz music as the photo illustrates. At the back of the park you can find Sony's Metreon Entertainment Center which is a great place to hang out if you're an electronics fan. My photograph was taken from the 3rd floor the The Metreon Center. |
On the East end of the park you can find this man made waterfall dedicated the Dr. Martin Luther King. As you walk behind the waterfalls, you can read one of King's speeches. |
Fisherman's Warf - Pier 39 Oh yes, this was fun. Lots of restaurants and shops. They even have a carousal and sea lions. It's really a tourist trap but I had a great time. Walk outside Pier 39 on the main road and you'll see it's a kind of carnival atmostphere. Performance artists, pan handlers, and souviner shops. There is a Harley Davidson store which was great because I bought my brother something from there. and a few feet away is a Barnes and Noble where I could go in and relax. |
Kodak claims this is an interesting thing to photograph. Personally I think it is a boring thing to photograph but who am I to argue with Kodak ;*) |
