| | Redesmere, near Macclesfield, Cheshire, one Autumn evening.
Redesmere is half a mile long and is used for sailing - it's also home to a wide variety of wildlife. |
Tilston Lock on the Shropshire Union Canal, near Bunbury, Cheshire.
The canal runs for about 60 miles from the edge of Wolverhampton to the River Mersey at Ellesmere Port.
| | The River Dee at Chester.
The historic, Roman city of Chester is a popular venue for a day-out for people in the North-West of England. |
Another view of the River Dee at Chester - you can see the two pleasure boats in the distance - a leisurely boat trip on the River Dee is a nice way to spend a couple of hours.
| Macclesfield Canal at Higher Poynton |
Macclesfield Canal Opened in 1831, the 26 mile long Macclesfield Canal was built to serve the mills, mines and quarries of the nearby Marple, Poynton, Bollington, Macclesfield and Congleton areas as well as to provide a link from Manchester to the Potteries. Old mills can still be seen at Bollington (originally for cotton) and Macclesfield (silk), and there are still the remains of many coal mines in the Poynton and Bollington areas. Today the canal is home to many colourful narrow boats as seen in my photo, taken near Higher Poynton. |
Between Pickmere and the village of Great Budworth in Cheshire -- walking around the lanes and pathways of Cheshire is a real pleasure -- this photo was taken in March with the spring daffodils in bloom.
