Cutta Cutta caves are easily missed along the Stuart Highway just south of Katherine some 25 kms or thereabouts. They're not a very big system and they're not very deep underground, at least the cave set up for visitors.
Although there's no evidence of Aborigines having used the caves, Europeans made use of them fairly easy in the piece. People going out hunting from Katherine would stop over and managed to shoot some of the stalagtites to pieces. During WWII army personnel used the caves for outings sometimes bringing generators for lighting.
There's a visitor centre on site and guided tours conducted by the staff.
Cascades frozen in time.
The caves have well developed walkways and stairs. But there isn't any wheelchair access.
The caves are only floodlit during guided tours.
A flow stone that looks more like very ripe putrescent mass.

Looks like a wonderful place! I need to make plans to return to Australia! Gillybob greetings
Excellent stuff, quality pages. Loved the waterfalls. I even gave you a mention in my pages.
lovelypics of the sights along the way - looks a great/wellworth to make! beautiful Australia of course!
Hope you get around to scanning those pics one day Zig!
I could not agree with you more about the water... I was putting down about 5L a day!
Beautiful pix Zig. The waterfall and swimming hole ones are lovely!! Don't know if I'd be camping out there with those crocs though? :o) Cheers, Ann.
Wonderful pictures... what an amazing country you live in! Just not so sure I liked either the paper wasps or the croc! Just my silly phobias! Are palms native to Australia?
Good tip! Water is always needed in the NT. Most people forget that until it's too late.
So many of the towns seem to be named after womenfolk. Maybe the tough guys who first came into this area were missing their women.
