Close to Tesco Lotus is a Buddhist Temple and the Thavornwitthayaai School of Buddhism. When you've had enough of shopping, eating and sampling the other pleasures that Hat Yai has to offer it's a good place to come for some spiritual enlightenment. |
| | The Buddha at the temple is huge and can be seen from a great distance. Here is a view looking up. |

As I peeped through the open door of the school these monks beckoned me inside and we chatted for a good hour. The monk on the left of the picture spoke good English fortunately for me. They are at the school for a year to do a Bachelors Degree in Buddhism. What I heard reinforced my own thoughts that Buddhism, more than any other religion or philosophy, is more suited to the human condition. Recently an Australian meditation teacher was at the school. He spent 30 years in Burma, has taught a over Asia and is world famous apparently but I had never heard of him. Meditation is an integral part of Buddhism and something that I should learn more about.
| | Not quite the terracotta army but this Chinese graveyard at the temple was quite interesting. The statues that are 'occupied' have details of the deceased and sometimes photos on the outside. |
You can see that some of the statues have a cavity in the back. In fact, they all started off this way but once the remains of the deceased are put inside the hole is blocked up.
