A Lifelong Passion | holding a wounded barn owl |
"until mankind can extend his compassion to the animals, he will never find peace"Albert Schweitzer
I guess my love for animals is what characterises me most of all, and I hope it will remain that way until the end. (this picture is from a children's comics magazine)

| | Myrto my donkey This is Myrto, my donkey! Unfortunately not with me anymore. I found her when already too old, wounded and abandoned and took care of her old age.
we gave each other lots and lots and lots of happiness. And lots of kisses!!! |
Pepos-The Menace!!!! This is my short-legged, sausage-like dog Pepos! Explorer and Navigator! He must be one of the most widely travelled dogs! (Who dares leave him behind? He will drive his caretaker mad!!!) He goes everywhere with me, has smelled and pissed many European corners and feels at ease everywhere! | | | Pepos @ Lago Maggiore, Italy |

| | the dog pie... it feels great to be part of the dog pie, and take a nap lying with your head on the back of a dog provided the dog does not move around and breaks your nerves :-) here with my two other dogs, Sultana and Mac.Sultana acting like the pillow!!! |

| | Art (short for Artemis) Meet Art one of my cats |
The Pig and I She was tiny when she came to the farm. She was still a baby. We called her Lily. We gave her a bath as soon as she came. We made her a little house and her very own courtyard and she surprised us right from the beginning. She marked her own little toilet and never did anything anywhere else. And all the myths of filthy pigs were dissolved once and for all.
Lily grew up with the dogs, thinking she was a dog herself. When the dogs rested she rested with them. When the dogs heard a noise at the far end of the farm and ran to investigate she would run after them, far, far, far behind, ears flapping, tail wiggling.
She spent her days in the garden and her evenings with us next to the fire. She would rest her small head on the dogs' back and slept there in total bliss. In the summer her ears got burnt from the sun and we would treat them with cold cream. She closed her eyes and let herself to our soothing touch.
Once we took her on the lease with the rest of the dogs to a trendy summer resort nearby. That created an upheaval. What caused even more upheaval was when a bulldog decided to flirt and get intimate with her in the middle of the crowded promenade.
No matter how much we trained her, she never learnt not to pee in the house. But her merits outweighed her faults by far. She left the fondest memories in me.
Ever since then I have this very very soft spot for pigs. | | | encounters with remarcable creatures |

| | Feeding the birds Being one of the two co-founders of Alkyoni wildlife hospital I have spent many hours feeding and treating birds and other animals in need. There is no way I will find an injured animal and I am not immediately involved in one way or another. You can check out the Alkyoni wildlife hospital here: www.alkioni.gr
This little house martin we found at Villa Real San Antonio, Portugal. We carried it with us in a camera bag and fed it mince meat. We handed it in to the wildlife hospital at the Ria Formoza Natural Park in the Algarve three days later. I do hope it survived and will make it back to Africa this autumn. |
