Here we are near the end of the race...very tired, hot and way too much to drink in the hot sun!!
We had our paddles made by a carpenter locally, but they had never seen a canoe paddle. I drew them a picture, and the came close, but each paddle was made out of a heavy, dense wood, similar to oak and weighed about 20 lbs. each!!
Look how low in the water we are riding. We were all setting almost waist deep in water at this point!!

The Race is Won!!

Yes, our calculations proved to be correct. A canoe is much faster than a raft...We finished the race a mile or two ahead of anyone else. What do you be there will be canoes on the river next year!!

Notice our outrigger is almost completely under water at this point...If you could see our faces, you would notice we had consumed most of the beer we had brought with us, and were feeling no pain at all, even though the temperature was around 60C or more.
