"Animals of Costa Rica" Costa Rica Travelogue by Srechko

I love animals and after my trip to Costa Rica I started thinking that I made mistake when I chose my profession and that I should join the Crocodile Hunter guy...
No kidding, most of the time I spent looking for a new species of animals. In 10 days I have seen:
3 species of monkeys,
iguanas,
parrots,
birds (all kinds),
snakes (one on Manuel Antonio Beach),
koatis,
racoons,
sloths,
lizards,
squirrels,
fishes,
scorpions,
agoutis (something looking like a big hamster),
and all possible domestic animals (geese, cows, dogs, cats, ducks, goats, horses, etc.).
I don't have pictures of all of them but here are some....
Monkeys are definitely the most entertaining animals I saw in Costa Rica. They approach people without fear and seeing them from short distance makes you see how amazingly they resemble people...
We witnessed unforgetable scene when a big group of squirrel monkeys invaded a restaurant close to Manuel Antonio. They were stealing bananas, jumping all over the place and entertaining the crowd for a while.
Another show was presented to us at the beach in Manuel Antonio. Group of cappucin monkeys gathered here and did a little preformance for us. Even though you are not supposed to feed them, some people couldn't resist...
My second favourite animal is koati. It is some sort of relative of racoons but koati is much less aggressive and cuter. They also are not scared of people and will eat anything you give them. You can see them anywhere and in most impossible places...
We run into these ones on the road close to Arenal.
The scrariest ones were definitely crocodiles. These live in crocodile garden in Hotel Los Lagos.
Iguanas are domestic animals in Costa Rica. They are everywhere....This one we saw in Manuel Antonio.
