"Moros y Cristianos" Valencia Travelogue by Lalique

Moros y Cristianos is a fest to commemorate Reconquista, when the Spaniards got rid of Moorish invasion and it is just another good tradition which is kept in Spain....

As I said before Valencia is not famous for Moros y Cristianos (Carmela71 didn't even know that it is held there :)))))), Las Fallas is the fest of the fest in the city (her I can give a promotion to another spanish town of Alcoy, which is extrememly famous for Moros y Cristianos celebration).
An old Spaniard, who was stading behind us while the procession was on, asked us: Have you been to Fallas?
We answered: No!
His reply was: Oh, well, if you haven't seen Fallas, you have seen nothing!!!
He might be right, but we enjoyed Moros y Cristianos despite it is not a great valencian event....

The procession starts from Quart Gates and flows along old streets up to Plaza de la Virgen.

The guys, the pic of whom you can see above, opened the procession and as obviously seen they represented "Cristianos", on this pic you can see the "Queen".

However the quantity of "Cristianos" was rather miserable in comparison to "Moros", as it was probably in real life?

After a few minutes of Cristianos procession, Moros took their place, and what it was a sight I can tell you!
Extremely bright and multicolored clothes, followed by chariots, music, live horses and camels...

Procession was split into numereous groups, each group usually consisted of male Moros (like on this pic), female Moros, dancers (usually young girls), children, a chariot and a music band.
