"Tourist Railway Operations in Rio Negrinho" Rio Negrinho Travelogue by glabah

Rio Negrinho Travel Guide: 1 reviews and 11 photos

This railway inspection car would normally be pushed along ahead of the train to allow the railway officials to inspect the track and line.

This railway inspection and work transportation vehicle was originally a road vehicle. It also is in Rio Negrinho and is owned by the railway preservation group there.

The crew of the railway preservation group is preparing the locomotive for operation on the lunch train.

The locomotive has an unusual air pump exhaust system to the front and side of the smokebox, which creates a lot of extra interesting steam when it is running.

After the train stops at the church and picnic grounds, it runs eastward to a siding where it changes train ends. Here, there is also an abandoned station.

In Brasil, most of the stations were made out of concrete at an early date, so that even an abandoned station will probably exist for many years.

Many of these restored steam locomotives operating in Brasil have beautiful cosmetic work on them. Witness, the yellow handrails, the red details, and the white smoke box. Apparently, even during the operating years, many steam locomotives were well maintained.

Not only does the line climb quite steeply in a few places, but the scenery is quite good, even in the fog and rain that is typical of the Brazilian coast line at times.

Contact information for the railway is located on my Rio Negrinho introduction page.

The web site for the railway preservation group operatin here (see my Intro page for Rio Negrinho) has a number of photos of the line as well - both of the regular operated trip and from a few special excursions that they have operated.

Another Steam Tourist Railroad in the State of Santa Catarina:

The railway preservation group in Tubarão operates over the Ferrovia Tereza Christina. See my Tubarão introduction for some photos.
