Finding lost relatives

by firechick - last update: Jun 2, 2004

Dad with lost cousins in Drenchia
I travelled with my dad for a week this summer to some towns that previously were just names on a birth certificate or passport - Oznebrida, Zuodar, Drenchia (Italy) to find his mother's family (sucessful). We found Pietro Trusnich living in the family home in Oznebrida (a hamlet of about 10 houses), and his cousin Olga who at 81 still runs a restauant in the bigger town of Drenchia.
More lost cousins - Zuodar
In Zuodar (another hamlet of about 6 houses) we found still more relatives - distant cousins(?) related to his mother's grandmother.
Dad in Visejic, Slovenia
Then on to some small villages in Slovenia to try to find his father's family (not so sucessful - communists had burnt all records in the church and the remaining family had moved to Lubljana). Due to a very common last name (Novak) the trail of that side grew cold...but we took some photos in the town where his father's father originally came from.
Visejic homes
The good thing about Visejic, despite being tiny was that it seems to be thriving. People who moved away to Lubljana still come back and have fixed up the old family farms as weekend homes.
