The battle started back in December 1914 as one soldier died on December, 30th 1914.
During the next 4 years, there were numerous of attacks. The war stopped at Vieil Armand on November, 9th 1918.
Almost 60'000 soldiers died on this battlefield during World War I.
As on every battlefield, people died and could not have been identified.
For all of this soldiers the french build this Monument.
Smaller than Arlington, but still impressive: The Cemetery of Vieil Armand.
Walking further into the forrest, you'll se the Dugouts from the German. You won't find any French Dugouts. They build them with wood which is not really smart for a war....
Enjoying the Overview from the Mountain, you might realize how important Vieil Armand was.
