"An Alternative to Mykonos - Sai Wan" Sai Kung Travelogue by backpackerbaby
Sai Kung Travel Guide: 14 reviews and 48 photos
It's really hard to find a beach free from water pollution in Hong Kong. Due to their hidden locations, Ham Tin Wan and Sai Wan in the eastern part of Sai Kung are the most beautiful beaches in Hong Kong.
There are many routes going to Ham Tin and Sai Wan. We've chosen the shortest route starting from Pak Tam Au (Note: it's NOT Pak Tam Chung, don't mix up). I (a totally non-professional hiker) think it's an easy route, at least without steep slopes or soft ground. The scenery along is amazing too, look~~
We walked past this rocky beach on the way to Ham Tin. It's a beach with a long shoreline, a quite and peaceful place.
There is a public toilet here but it's extremely smelly... >.<
After hiking for 'awhile', you'll come to the first sandy beach - Ham Tin Wan. Wanna confirm? Just recognise this little lovely vibrating bridge... it's the landmark of Ham Tin, so DON'T forget to make a picture with it!
We went to Ham Tin for a 1-night camping. After setting up our tent, we jumped into the water.. no no, we jumped into the WAVES!!!
The waves were so high and powerful that nobody could swim inside. It's really a pity... the water was so cool and clear...
... ...
couldn't swim...
we wandered around...
listened to the music of the nature...
took a deep breath...
hmm.. it's really a paradise..
I don't wanna leave!!!
Pak Tam Au -> Chek Keng -> Tai Long Au -> Ham Tin -> Sai Wan-> Sai Wan Pavillion
(8.5km in total, 3-4hrs walk)
Start:
Take bus No. 96R (Sunday only, from Diamond Hill MTR Bus Terminus) or No.94 (from Sai Kung Centre) to Pak Tam Au.
Back:
Take the minibus back to Sai Kung Centre from Sai Wan Pavillion. Then, take bus No. 92 to Diamond Hill MTR or green mini-bus to Choi Hung MTR or red mini-bus to Mong Kok.
Thanks my dear Bonnie and her Adam for camping with us. We had a good time together!!!
