The Bellas are the former Tuaregs' slaves. Slavery is officially abolished in Mali since the 70s.

Bellas often have very bright colours in their cloths and equipments.

The Tuareg “meharists” arrive one by one at a gallop while women are shouting “you-you” to encourage them. They order like for a battle. Impressive !

Your description of women's drumming and its symbolism made me cry. I have been away from Africa many years. I worked with the Basubiya, river people of Chobe District, Botswana. They are matrilineal. Safaris tell you nothing about their culture.
