Pashupatinath - Shiva's Peaceful Incarnation

Some local Sadhus
Sadhus walking along toward the Pashupatinath complex in late afternoon.
Lingam figurines in Pashupatinath
The Pashupatinath complex is dotted with small temples housing "lingam" images, the male Hindu symbol (the female symbol is the yoni).

Throughout the vast complex of Pashupatinath, you will come across sadhus of all kinds. Some of them keep their own counsel, others are a bit more "commercially" inclined. A donation of a few rupies is enough to cover a group like this.
Pashupatinath Temple Complex
Crossing the bridge over the Bagmati River, there are some benches where one can rest and contemplate the busy labyrinth of the Pashupatinath temple complex. This is a typical view.
Common Monkeys
Monkeys are considered holy in the Hindu religion, and they can be found all over Kathmandu - in the temples, in the streets - I even saw a monkey hanging out of the window of a building. Many live in the Pashupatinath complex.
Lingam
Another lingam within the terraced Pashupatinath complex.

Great page with interesting tips and travelogues. I hope I will visit Nepal once again, but for a longer time. In 1991 I made only a short stop of some days in Katmandu, coming from Lhasa and going back to Amsterdam.

Thanks for the B'Day wish. My mom says she wants to visit me in China this summer and go to Nepal; we'll see, both are big hypotheticals at the moment!
