Bhaktapur: "City of Devotees" My favorite shots are of the people, of course. I love the juxtaposition of this young boy next to a centuries-old wood and stone carvings, in Bhaktapur. |
| Local fare for sale in Patan |
| | Patan: "City of Beauty" Seeds and fruits drying under the sun, in Patan. |
| | Patan: "City of Beauty" Of obvious Indian influence. This temple was completed some time in the 1600's, and tends to dominate the scenery. In Patan, some local schoolchildren get a field day and a history lesson all in one. |
| Harvest in the Courtyards of Bhaktapur |
| | Bhaktapur: "City of Devotees" We were in Nepal around rice harvest time, and this was evident throughout the streets of Bhaktapur where around every corner, you saw someone hulling, sifting, and stepping on rice. |
| | Bhaktapur: "City of Devotees" As we strolled through this medieval town of Bhaktapur, the locals could often be seen looking out the windows of their homes. Sometimes they would wave. |
| | Bhaktapur: "City of Devotees" This is probably the hallmark temple of Bhaktapur, in that it has five story roofing. We had one of those tasty Nepali yogurt drinks (a "lassi") in a little, two-story cafe across the square, where the view was amazing. |
| | Bhaktapur: "City of Devotees" Here a woman methodically sifts through the rice, scattered all over the ground. It was hard to reconcile this Bhaktapur scene with that lovely, fluffy rice I found so delicious. Sometimes when food isn't as sterile as the U.S. FDA insists that it be, it's actually tastier! |
| Window Scene in Bhaktapur |
| | Bhaktapur: "City of Devotees" Ample evidence of Newari architecture, with special attention to the window work here in Bhaktapur. |

I hope I will visit Nepal once again, but for a longer time. In 1991 I made only a short stop of some days in Katmandu, coming from Lhasa and going back to Amsterdam. | crewrower Mon Apr 2, 2007 16:37 UTC Thanks for the B'Day wish. My mom says she wants to visit me in China this summer and go to Nepal; we'll see, both are big hypotheticals at the moment! |
