Assateague Island National Seashore
We camped at Assateague Island National Seashore in April of 2002. The first night it rained so hard we gave up the idea of cooking and drove to Ocean City MD for pizza. In the middle of the night, I had to remind myself that I was pretty sure that barrier islands don't flood in order to stop worrying about washing away and get some sleep. The next morning it was pretty obvious that it is important only to camp where they tell you. Huge sections of the campgrounds were just big puddles. If you had put your tent outside of the tent sites, you may have woken to find yourself under 6 inches of water.
