Hiking the Giant

Nahum, myself and Craig
Although I have lived in Thunder Bay for most of my life, this was the first time I had attempted to climb to the top of the Sleeping Giant in Sibley Park. The park is about an hour drive from Thunder Bay. There are a lot of different trails that take you to various parts of the giant. This time we took we took the trail that goes to the legs of the giant and passes by the Thunder Bay lookout, two giant steep cliffs with a small valley inbetween. I was blown away when I eventually saw it. We biked the first 6km of the trail and then walked the rest, in all the whole thing was a very relaxed 6 hours in total.
Tee Harbour on Lake Superior
After a short vertical climb we arrived at this sign
my friend Nahum....a lot braver than me!!!

A long way down

lookin down off the side of the cliff. If you throw a rock off the side of the cliff it takes 3.5 seconds for you to hear a sound at the bottom. Any math wiz out there know how high we were?
Looking down on the fall colors on the shore of Lake Superior
climbing back down the "chimney", not recommended as the trail is now closed.

Nice home town! Short summers - it`s a pity!

Very interesting and informative pages, Chris. I hope we can come back to Thunder Bay when we have a little more time to explore.

Really nice pics. I don't like the cold so well but I like the people and scenery in Canada. -- Greg

A lovely area, and I'm sure much more enjoyable in the summer months. However, because of the isolation, you have such natural beauty. Good pages.
