Getting To Know Me

by deecat - last update: Jun 23, 2007

Changing Seasons

Backyard Summer/Winter
I think one of the reasons that I love the Chicago area (the midwest for that matter) is because of the changing seasons.

It's so much fun to wait anxiously for the first signs of Spring and to watch everything come alive again.

The summer is wonderful because it's filled with sounds of nature, beautiful flowers, sun-filled days, and warm nights.

Fall, with the shades of reds, oranges, ambers, rusts, and golds delight my senses. The crisp air envigorates us all. Of course, it's sad to see the summer's growth die back, but knowing that it will return, gives hope.

Winter is my least favorite season, but I still feel like a kid with the first snowfall. It cleanses the earth and brightens the grey days.

Yes, changing seasons: one of the many reasons I don't CHANGE my love for the Chicago area!

A Sweet, Quiet Cat: Sally

Sally will be Thirteen years old on July 4, 2007. She is one of the sweetest cats I've had because she is quiet and well trained. She walks on a leash, only eats her dry cat food mixture (one the Vet recommended twelve years ago), never begs for food while we are eating, does not jump up on cabinets, sleeps on her window perch beside the bed or at the bottom of Allan's feet at night; she tolerated Mr. Rabbit when we brought him in as the new pet, ALWAYS uses her litter box (even when she is outside, she cries when she needs to use the litter box so we'll let her come inside), and she's really quite BEAUTIFUL.

I've always thought that people who hate cats are people who always want to be in CONTROL. I like cats because they are independent and self sufficient.

Way Back When...

The following pictures represent the best of my past.

The picture on this page is in a frame that sits in front of me as I use the computer. It is my favorite of my father and mother.

My father: Ross O. Wood: The greatest Daddy ever. He died in 1999.

My mother: Wanda Jean Wood
The most unselfish Mother ever. She died in 1999, ten months after my father passed away.

No matter how old I am, I still feel like an orphan now that they are gone.

Way Back When...II

This picture was taken when there were just four in the family. My mother Wanda Jean; my sister, Ronda Jo (the one in the back), my father Ross O, and me, Dee Dee (back then)
I was about 4; my sister was 5 1/2, and my parents were only 24 and 26!

The Four of Us

One of the only pictures I have of the four of us: 2 sisters and 2 brothers (from my wedding in August of 1963!)

My sister, Ronda Jo Gullett was my Maid of Honor. (24 yrs old)

My brother, Douglas Ross Wood, was a Groomsman.(16 yrs old)

My little brother, Dustin Jay Wood, was the Ring Bearer. (3 yrs old)

Me: Sharon DEE Johnson, the bride
(22 yrs old)

I DO, I DO....

n August of 1963 (40 years ago), Allan and I wed. We were so young, 23 and 22. That was not considered young back then. Most of my friends and my sister married shortly after graduating from high school. So, for the times, I was an old maid!

So many years ago, and I'm still saying, "I Do, I Do".

And Baby Makes Three.....

Our daughter Jill was born on October 29, 1969...it was the best of times.. She was a sweet, easygoing baby who loved to laugh, to play with the cats, and to be with her "Daddy". To this day, she still often laughs, still loves cats (Cleo, her own cat especially), and still loves to be with her "Daddy". The only difference now, she has her own love, Eric.

Thanks for your visit and nice comments on my Washington page, Dee. That was a marvelous trip with our (then) 12 year old granddaughter. Hope all is well with you and you are looking forward to a nice Thanksgiving.
