Summer in RI

Local scenes in June/July/August 2001

A roadside view on the way to my home. These are wildflowers that appear every year at this time--I love to see them bloom!

The Octagon House

This is definitely an "off the beaten path" item! This house is located in Carolina, Rhode Island, one of our tiny little villages in the southern portion of the state, on Route 112.

Schoolhouse

This is the Bell School in Richmond, Rhode Island. Built in 1826, it has been the home of the Richmond Historical Society since 1968 and has recently been renovated. There are lots of these old schools located around the countryside in Rhode Island.

Schartner's Farm

A local favorite for vegetables, fruits, plants, pick-your-own fruits, fabulous pies!! Schartner's Farm is very popular with Rhode Islanders. It's located on Route 2 in Exeter.

Seafood Festival

Finally, I got these pictures developed! Here is the Charlestown Seafood Festival, which is held in the southern end of Rhode Island, along the coast. This is the Seafood Festival which is held every year in this location.

First is a photo of some of the concession stands. I took this one because the sign says Chowder, but it's spelled as we pronounce it here in Rhode Island "Chowda". Can you see it on the right?
This is (I guess!) someone's idea of an Australian concession stand! Mmmmmm, road kill, gotta have some!
And last, but not least---here's one of the lobster shacks. We also pronounce lobster as "lobsta", but these folks spelled it the right way!
