The Sights of Mt Gambier My home town! |
This is Saint Pauls Church on Penola Road. This is the largest church in the town, and sometimes has up to 4 weddings a Saturday during the peak season. Beautiful inside and acoustically the best there is. |
Aussie Animals This my pet cockatoo which we call Cocky. Lots of these live in the wild around Mt Gambier. |
This is a native parrot which is very peskey and eats our fruit trees! |
These are some baby emus, a couple of months old. Funny aren't they?!?! |
This is a pelican and you problaby have them in your country, but I just love them and think they are the most unreal birds around!! |
This is the most DEADLY spider in Australia, the Red Back Spider. This mother is guarding her eggs. The only other deadly spider is the Funnel Web. |
The Country Side This is a typical Australian wind mill which is used to pump water to the cattle troughs and is powered by the wind |
Grape growing is popular around the Mt Gambier area, this one is just outside the town limits. The most well known area is Coonawarra which is 60kms to the North of the town. |
The dairy industry is HUGE around Mt Gambier. Everyone has cows. |
This is the view driving into the town from the North. |
This is the view coming in to the mount from the South, you can see Centenary Tower on the hill. |
The Town Hall buildings in the main street. |
This is attached to the town hall and houses a cafe, art gallery and theatre company. |
This is a scale replica of The Lady Nelson ship. LT James Grant was aboard the ship when he sighted the most Southerly point of the state of SA on December 3rd 1800 which was Cape Northumberland which you can see in my sea photos. |
This hole in the ground is known to the locals as the Little Blue Lake as it is also blue in colour (not easy to see from this photo sorry) and is a very popular swimming hole for the local teens. They jump off the high cliffs for dares. The little blue, blue lake and some other sinkholes are connected by an underground water table, thus all the water is blue! |
This is Centenary Tower which is set upon the highest point of Mt Gambier's hills. It was built 100 years after Mt Gambier was colonised, thus the name. You can climb up the hill to the tower and take a tour while the flag is flying. It is not in my photo. |
This is Dingley Dell, the old home of author and poet Adam Lindsay Gordon. You probably havn't hear of him, but lots of people come to have a look at this!! |
