A view towards Brannock Island

Now it's only a short trip towards the most western part of the Island. We pass a house where the people are thatching a roof, but because the road is going downhill we had to much speed to stop here. So we will see them on our way back. The road is here bounded by those stonewalls and behind the walls we see the rocky bottom of the fields. No longer the meadows that we have seen in the rest of the island.

A rocky beach .... and almost alone

We arrive at a rocky beach where we see a jetty to launch some boats into the water. We are alone, no other people insight. We close our bikes and we look for a nice place to have our picnic lunch. We find a big rock were we can sit and eat our sandwich with cheese and "pudding". While we are eating there is a couple arriving and they are having the same idea as us. They have their picnic at the jetty. Besides us there are only the seagulls and the sunrays. We enjoy the rest for some more moments, but the time to leave is already come.

Friendly people ...

As we leave, we take a few photos from a water pool and then we are off. We stop at that house where they are thatching and their neighbour starts talking to us. He was working in his small garden in front of the house. He talked about the thatching and that the owner has a "trap" and takes tourists around the island. We learned some more about the island in these present days.

The island is changing ....

There are some new houses built, in a different style. They have a modern building style and are not conform the existing cottages on the island. He finds that a pity and he points us towards a new building against the hill and I have to agree with him. This house is cursing with the environment and the other houses around us. There are several houses build around the island in this new style and the most inhabitants of the island don't like that.

A holiday house ...

He is from Galway and uses this cottage as a holiday house to get away from the city life and to relax and garden a bit. He's living here already a long time and has seen the changes on the island. He sees that we are sweating and offers us some water, but we friendly decline because we still have a lot of drinking water in our backpack.

The weather ...

He tells us that it normally rains every second day in Inishmore, but that they already had several weeks no rain anymore. We are happy off course with this weather. It's for us a blessing. We are so lucky that we are not suffering the heat wave on the mainland of Europe (over 37 degrees in Belgium) and that in Ireland we are having our normal summer weather (25-30 degrees). The people in Ireland are friendly and like to talk to others.

The story continuous in my next travelogue

Hello Alain! Thank you for taking me to a roundtrip around Inishmore! My friend and I spent a few days there some years ago and rode bikes as well. Absolutely the best way to see that wonderful island. Greetings from Finland, Sini
