Up Close and Personal | Up close and Personal! - Meet Liz |
When you live in the big city, you forget that there really is life out beyond the fringe. You go to the grocery store and buy your milk, meat, vegetables.. whatever, and probably don't think much about where it came from or the people who were involved with the growing/ raising of the produce/ animals. I'm proud to be related to farming families - some who grow potatoes, others who operate dairy farms and some who raise beef cattle. I have always been the city cousin who lost out on the opportunities that my rural cousins had including 4H and , Junior Farmers. One of my cousins, who is involved in a program of raising specifically bred Hereford cattlle, was showing at a country fair and invited me to attend and to take some pictures for them. So... welcome to Orangeville Fair... Hereford Show. |
| | Beauty doesn't come easily I thought women needed to primp .. .but man! I've never seen so many beauty items in my hairdresser's salon! The cattle have to have their hair trimmed just so... and brushed so it looks thick and luxurient... and NO! don't lie down on your nice white knees... oh so that is why thy are put in these, and tied up. So the girls can primp over you. |
First Place pose This is for Female with calf from this year... I think this was Liz with her calf Naomi, born in Feb of this year. This pair won 1st place in this class.
| | Class - Herd These are the 4 animals my cousins brought... 1 bull and 3 heifers. This group won 2nd prize. My cousins went home with 3 firsts, 1 second and 1 3rd place, plus Naomi won Grand Champion Reserve Female - aka 2nd place. A nice collection of ribbons, not just for show, but also to use in advertising about the quality of their breeding stock. |
City girl and calf Just to prove that I wasn't afraid to hold on to a calf too... not just take pictures
| View over the fairgrounds |
| | A view from the cowbarn Just a view towards the horses and then the midway in the distance. |
One of the goat classes... not sure what breed of Goats these are. Pretty though.
| | This really is a bit of bull Meet Taboo's Noble... the little boy who had to put up with 3 heifers. |
