MY ROSKILDE TRAVELOGUE....

by eden_teuling - last update: Jan 23, 2005

WORKSHOP AT THE MUSEUM.....

WORKSHOP NEAR THE MUSEUM...
This is the outside of the workshop where several people have a full time job and (with the help of volonteers) build replicas.....

It is a pleasure to see the TOOLS and the way they work.

The way they build these ships is the AUTHENTIC WAY which adds to the impressive sights.........

THE FA?ADE OF THE MUSEUM ROSKILDE DENMARK...

THE MUSEUM FA?ADE, BORDERING THE WATER...

Here you see the MUSEUM FA?ADE and a boat, a LONGBOAT which was built here and that you can make a tour with, which bts is NOT EASY....we saw people try!!

Nowadays you can ORDER HERE AT THE MUSEUM WHARF a real "DRAGON SHIP" , 12 - 13 metres in length for about 100,000,-- EUROS !!!!!!!!!!!

EXTRA INFO: http://www.vikingeskipsmuseet.dk

VIKING SHIP REPLICA

ADDING PLANK AFTER PLANK.....

YOU GET A CLINKER-BUILT boat....

THE MODEL IS UNEQUALED......

GREY SKIES ABOVE THE MUSEET ROSKILDE....

THE DAY BECAME GREY BUT.....

our enthusiasm didn't wilt.....on the contrary: only at home, seeing these grey skies in the photos I wondered about not having noticed these clouds and the greyness at the time at the MUSEET.

Completely obsessed and captivating by the beauty all around!

SHEER BEAUTY ROSKILDE

SHEER BEAUTY........

This is a place of sheer beauty and the most wonderful things is that there are NO signs DON'T TOUCH on the contrary, you are invited to touch everything which makes the experience so complete.....and also makes you linger and strolling around there for hours on end......
inside and outside the museum....

BALLAST OF THE SHIPS: HUGE PEBBLES.

HUGE PEBBLES / PIECES OF ROCK.....

Just like the VIKINGS did (between 850 - 1250 )they now use huge pebbles / pieces of rock as BALLAST to stabilize the ships....

Walking along the jetties outside the museum I took this photograph....

TREES (MINIATURE) IN POTS....

TREES IN POTS ????

Yes, just to show the visitors of the MUSEET which TREES / WOOD are / is used for the different parts of ships and for different ships....

Very friendly gesture and everyone who works there at the wharf is also ready to explain and to answer all of your questions....

A POTENTIAL BUYER ??

A BUYER ????

SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL AND PERHAPS NOT TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ME this BLONDE, MODERN VIKING seems to be thinking, while dreaming about a replica of a small originally Nordic little craft!
