Camelback Mountain Hike

by bruingirl - last update: May 28, 2004

Hiking up early in the morning....

Arizona gets EXTREMELY hot starting in late May and since this was in June, we were about to expect temperatures in the mid 90F by 10am. We started the hike at 600am, or at least tried to. Apparently, everyone had the same idea and we were waiting to park our car for 30 minutes!!! We took the Echo Canyon entrance just west of Tatum Blvd.

Looking out over Scottsdale, AZ

This is the highest point in Phoenix at 2,704ft. Okay, being from California, this is NOTHING, but it was still a fun hike at 1.16 miles up that is REALLY steep which makes for a great workout! :)

Now THIS would be a bad fall....

Many locals like to run up this mountain early in the mornings.

Hiking back down

Be careful as you're hiking down because it's really steep. They actually have handrails that you can use as you back yourself down.

Sounds like a hike was in order after a night of clubbing? Nice pictures from above it all in Phoenix
