I've always loved animals, but I have a special love for horses, cats, and elephants.
My parents accepted every animal I brought home...that included rabbits, baby chicks, cats, dogs, turtles, etc. When I was young, my mother scraped and sacraficed so I could take riding lessons. |
| Hey, Rascal, What's with up with the Barbie Dolls? |
| | Update on Rascal RASCAL (1997 - 2004)
April 6, 2004 Yesterday, we had to put Rascal to sleep. It was probably one of the worst days I've ever experienced. Even after surgery, the cancer had spread aggressively and rapidly. He had no chance for recovery and it was heartbreaking seeing him not be able to do what he normally could due to this terrible illness. Please think before taking your cat to get a free, city 3-year rabies vaccine. These cheap vaccines are widely known to cause cancer at the site of injection in cats. However, we did not know it and were never provided with literature about that possibility. Save yourself the heartache and visit your veteriarian--- pay for the safe 1-yr vaccine. Make sure it's the 1-yr vaccine!! Read, read, and read more about this subject before your cat's next vaccine is due.
January, 2004- Our worst fears have come true. Rascal had been to the vet in early December (2003) and a biopsy was done on a growth. The cytology report said the cells were benign, but the growth should be removed. Rascal had surgery the Monday after Christmas and the vet also sent off that tissue for examination. This time the report came back indicating the cells were cancerous! The vet said he thought he removed all of the cancerous tissue during surgery, but I am having a difficult time trying to feel optimistic. Since the surgery, Rascal has not been the same. He hides and sleeps most of the time and I don't think this is a good sign. Won't you say a little prayer for him? |
| Heidi, Ginger, & Squirrely Boy! |
| | Who's Watching Who? Latest picture of Heidi, Ginger and the Squirrel who's watching them!! (March, 2005)
Heidi is our 3 year old German Shepherd. It will be 3 years ago Christmas Day that she arrived on our door step. Her mother, Anna, was a search and rescue dog who worked at "Ground Zero" in New York City the day after the World Trade Centers were attacked. Sadly, Anna succumbed this past Spring possibly due to injury and disease from her work there. Anna's handler was also hospitalized but has since recovered.
Heidi loves Ginger, a torti who is our youngest cat who we've had for a little over a year. Heidi follows Ginger everywhere and constantly dotes on her. We keep trying to tell Heidi she's a German Shepherd-- a noble breed! We tell her to show a little dignity, but all she cares about is Ginger! |
| | More than a Handful This is the way its been with me most of my life. Only when I was a little kid did I have only one pet. Since then I've always had more than a handful! |
| | Two of the Best! Bear and Tigger, inseparable half-brothers! They had my heart. |
| | Mamma's Boy Bear was a Mama's Boy and I loved every minute of it. |
| | Tucked in for the Night! Rascal used to be homeless and on the street. With a little rehabilitation for his waywardness, he has become the object of our affections and has a home for life. |
| | Douse the Lights! Sometimes Rascal has had enough of his adoring parents and prefers to shun the camera! |
