Going up the mountain. It used to be hard work to get up the Cofre. You either went on your own feet or a horse. Now, (this must be progress...), you can take the bus. From either Xalapa or Perote, get up really early to get to the little town of Las Vigas before 7 am. There is a bus which goes up to a village called Tembladeras. That is as far as the road goes. You can hire some horses and a guide from here. Even if you don't get to the top, the whole experience is magic. Take a packed lunch (remember something for the horse). Listen to the wind sighing through the trees. Enjoy |
