My cultural highlight of the year!

I am a member of the "Projektchor des Landkreises Karlsruhe", a choir composed of singers from Karlsruhe and surrounding communities. Once a year we get together, have 3 rehearsals (of course we do get the music beforehand to practise) and then we usually have 3 or 4 concerts in the Karlsruhe area.

In 2003, we performed Händel's oratory "Josua" together with soloists, choir, orchestra and dancers!!! It is a fantastic thing!

2001 Händel's Dettinger Te Deum

Händel, Georg Friedrich
* 23. Febr. 1685 in Halle
† 14. Apr. 1759 in London

2002 Schubert's Geistliches Konzert

Schubert, Franz
* 31.Jan.1797
† 19. Nov. 1828

Open Air Concert in Frauenalb

In 2002 and 2005 were the only two times when we managed to perform in the old cloister ruin of Frauenalb, just south of Karlsruhe. What a terriffic atmosphere!!!

The picture was take just before the concert started, so there were not visitors yet, but you might be able to get a feeling of what this was like...

Still gives me goose bumps!!!

2003 Händel's Josua

Händel, Georg Friedrich
* 23. Febr. 1685 in Halle
† 14. Apr. 1759 in London

2004 Rossini's Messe Solennelle

Due to the cuts in finances the county of Karlsruhe did not have enough money to support a huge choir and orchestra as in the previous years. So we had a choir of only half the size - 60 people, which means only 15 people in each voice!!! So you better know your music!

The mass was not easy to sing, but a wonderful challenge for sure and I think we did quite well!

2005 Sanctus and Benedictus through the Centuries

This concert was different - well, the choir was the big version again with the chamber choir of last year singing some extra pieces.

But the whole concept was special: instead of singing one oratory or mass or piece of ONE composer, we sang the same theme by 12 different composers:

Sanctus and Benedictus.

A fantastic idea and wonderful concerts! Again we had international soloists:
a German soprano, a Brazilian alto, a Korean tenor and an Islandic bass!
