The Mornington Peninsula is a very pleasant bayside drive from Melbourne, clockwise around Port Phillip bay, through some of Melbourne's beachside suburbs, finally coming to beach towns before the town of Sorrento, where you can catch the car ferry across the bay to Queenscliff, near Geelong. (It's quite a long drive, so the ferry crossing makes it a bit quicker to get back to Melbourne, plus you see new scenery and don't have to retrace your steps). |
| | Rye The long pier at Rye is a popular spot for snorkelling. Beneath it they have a signposted self-guided snorkelling trail. |
| | At the end of your journey, you can catch the ferry back across the bay. You might even see some of the bay's dolphins on the way. |

Ocean Rd pix. Beautiful. Thanks. :) Susan in Sydney | aussiedoug Thu Jan 22, 2004 11:40 UTC South Melbourne eh! Home of the "Bloods", spiritual home of my beloved Swans (see my Sydney sports travel tip). Haven't been to Melbourne for yonks! Must get back, lovely city, as you've shown here Kate! | dracko Wed Jun 18, 2003 17:56 UTC Great info! Those are some friendly parrots! It's a shame that so many beautiful places tend to get overwhelmed by tourists... |
