South Africa has become my favourite destination. Having been there about 20 times since the arly 1980's I know this country very well and have been driving there thousands of kilometers. Of course I have seen lots of places and met wonderful people down there which gave me the opportunity to see much more places than the average tourist sees.
My favourite place in South Africa is Cape Town and its lovely surroundings, especially the Cape Winelands.

In the Winelands behind the mountains you find wonderful places like Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl which are home to famous wines. Most wineries can be visited and wine can be purchased and tasted.

Africa's most Southern wine estates

The most southern wine estate in the South African Republic is located in Hermanus, about an hour's car drive from the city of Cape Town. Out of Hermanus there are two world famous wineries, Hamilton-Russell and Bouchard Finlayson. Their wines are superb and can be tasted. Sometimes one can buy rare qualities of their wines which make a perfect souvenir to keep for a long time before enjoying these marvellous wines.
