Jeddah is a city of sculptures. |
It has over 400 sculptures and other exhibits as centrepieces on the roundabouts, median strips and along the corniche. |
| hanging lamps roundabout - near King Fahd's Palace |
These lamps light up at night. |
Some of these are quite spectacular - a giant penny farthing bicycle, a flotilla of full size ex-navy gunboats complete with fighter escort, a decommissioned DC 10 airliner, cars embedded in a vast concrete block and sculptures created from the old desalination plant. |
Their diversity is extraordinary, from the solid curves of Henry Moore to the poetic beauty of Mustafa Sunbal's seagulls in flight. |
They are a good talking point, nonetheless, and in Jeddah everyone has his favourite sculpture. |
An area of the Corniche boasts genuine Henry Moore works of art. |
