| AWACS flight crew watches Thunderbirds in flight |
The United States Air force flying elite, the Thunderbirds graced Anchorage with their presence for the 2003 Arctic Thunder Air show. Civilians were allowed to look, touch and walk in the airplanes that we are no longer (Due to Sep. 11th) allowed to be near. |
The noise due to the fighter jets was so loud at one point the crowd collectively jumped and nervously laughed with one another, the crowed had been buzzed. Everything felt strange, the nearness of the forbidden airplanes, the military opening their arms, the people smiling. |
With so many people out on the Tarmac enjoying the show, traffic was a difficult nightmare. Even the shuttle bus boasted at 45 min. wait... stop and go traffic was the only way to leave the base, with the civilian traffic being herded like volatile cattle. |  | |
