Travellers only- MUST Read! Being a potential foot health specialist, I can't help but share with all the travellers out there with some simple basic footcare advice. In this way, we can all walk and travel happily without aching feet.
Love, Ms FOotFetish
1) Chose the right kind of footwear when travelling. You know the limits of heels and thongs whereby not good for long walking distance. So Ladies, keep your heels for special nights.
Sports sneakers are considered the best footwear as they provide high shock absorption and maximum support and cushioning.
2) Travelling to warmer climates? No fret.Simply chose sandals like Teva with ankle and heel support.
3) Crack heels:
-Using a foot file or pumice stone and gently "rub" in one direction. -Apply aqueous based foot lotion(eg, Eulactol, Du'it) twice daily preferably after showers. -**Do not apply lotion in between toes as this can trap the moisture and cause skin maceration.
4) Change socks regularly to maintain foot hygiene.
5) Never warm your foot in front of fire, heater or hot bottles. Try wearing woollens socks.Cotton socks are best for warmer climates.
6)Do not attempt to cut any callous or hard skin or corns on your own. A cut may increase the risk of infection.
7) Self -medicated or over the counter foot treatments are generally not advisable.I've seen too many people who attempt their own treatments which turned out to be disasterous on their feet.
8) Sore feet? That usually signal that your feet needs a rest. So sit down or better still, elevate your legs on a pillow if possible
9) Fungal infection (rotten nails) can come in various colours such as red, white, yellow, black that leads to thickening and crumbly nails. It has mutiple causes to this condition and topical anti-fungal paints (eg, Loceryl) can be bought over the counter.Alternative treatment is to apply tea tree oil twice daily.
Treatment on fungal infection is generally hard to treat and one needs to be compliance+patience throughout the intervention. Time frame for treatment is from 6 months to 18months.

New Feet On The Street ** Passing this website on good faith: www.drfootsie.org Check this out his website --> Dr Martin Marks is indeed an extraordinary podiatrist from Compton, Californa who has gone an extra mile in setting up anti-drug and anti-crime campaigns for the youths. As he realised that these campaigns are far more important than footcare education in the schools, he invested all his time and money into this non-profit organization to educate the youths on drug issues especially.
If would be nice that if you can check out his website and leave a few words of encouragements for his outstanding efforts and that would be fantastic. |
ole ole ole ============================ A special gift from VTer MISSYWQ:
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD, Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it. "LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints, I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me." The LORD replied, "My precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." | | | contribution from Deadlites |

| | Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. For those who doesn't have the slightest clue what podiatrist is--one who treats and diagnoses foot disorders. And yes, I deal with biomechanics, sports medicine, in-grown toenail surgery, shoes assessment, diabetes (majority cases),fungal infection (eg,Athlete's foot),nail disorders, all types of ulcers on de foot, making insoles/orthotics for those flat feeties...
1) Feet -one of the most vital parts of the body. Without feet , it gets you no where!
2) If there's a defect on your Right hand, you can always count on your Left hand.
Vice versa on lower limb, you can't depend just on one foot to walk!
3) Wound care has always been a great interest to me.Don't ask me why! But I love to treat, debride, and heal them. I see it as a great deal of challenge to me.
4) I foresee that there would be a great demand in podiatry services in near future.
5) It's one of the health professions where you get to TREAT and DIAGNOSE at the same time...need not to call me a Dr for that.Ha!
6) NO more shift work!
7) You're the boss of yourself.Hence, you;ll be the one who is in control of your patient's treatment.
8) Able to set up your own clinic one day....
9) Surgery work is involved .
10) Better pay ...of course! |
